Leaking boiler or wet pipework?
A leak can be a cheap seal or a failed heat exchanger. Either way, water and electrics together need dealing with promptly.
- Gas work only goes to installers who give us a Gas Safe number
- Never more than three local firms on your job
- Free to use, with no obligation to go ahead

Check these first
- Turn the boiler off at the switch and, if the leak is significant, isolate the water supply.
- Note where the water appears: pressure relief pipe outside, under the case, or at a joint.
- Never remove the boiler casing yourself, only a Gas Safe registered engineer should.
- Photograph the leak and the boiler badge; it speeds up an accurate quote.
What happens next
Submit the details and local Gas Safe registered installers can contact you. If you smell gas, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first.
What we require of installers
Gas Safe registration
Each installer gives us their Gas Safe registration number when they join. We do not check every installer on the official Gas Safe Register ourselves, so please ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card and check them at gassaferegister.co.uk before work starts. A listing on BoilerMatch UK is not an endorsement or guarantee of any installer's work. Oil and electric boilers follow their own competent person routes, so ask which applies to your job.
Building regulations
Boiler work in England and Wales needs to meet Approved Documents J and L and be notified properly. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own equivalents.
Benchmark handover
Ask for the Benchmark checklist to be filled in on the day, because most manufacturers need it before a warranty will stand.
Accreditations we look for
- GAS SAFEGas work
- TRUSTMARKQuality scheme
- OFTECOil heating
- NICEICElectrical
- NAPITElectrical
- CIPHEPlumbing body
We ask installers to hold the registration that fits the job, such as Gas Safe for gas and LPG, OFTEC for oil, and an electrical competent person scheme for electric. BoilerMatch UK is not the Gas Safe Register and is not accredited or endorsed by any of these organisations, so it is always worth checking an installer's own registration before work starts.
Up to 3 local quotes. No obligation.
Other situations
Boiler quotes by city
BoilerMatch UK introduces homeowners to local heating installers and you decide who, if anyone, you hire. We are not the Gas Safe Register, we do not fit or repair boilers ourselves, and any quote, work or warranty is agreed directly between you and the installer.
